Radiation Therapy for Breast Cancer
The primary radiation treatment modality for breast cancer remains external beam radiation therapy, which uses the Linear Accelerator to deliver radiation to the breast while minimizing any significant dose to surrounding healthy tissues such as the heart or lungs. Proven to have greater than 90% local control rates for early-stage breast cancer and cure rates unsurpassed by other modalities, external beam radiotherapy is simple, effective, and can be done is as few as 16 treatments. Dr. Schewe has treated thousands of breast cancer patients in the Denver area alone, and works closely with breast surgeons and medical oncologists to insure a coordinated approach to breast care.
